The kookaburra’s call announces a family group’s territory near dawn and dusk. Their song sounds like a laugh, with chortles, trills, and hoots. Because their calls are so loud and predictable, kookaburras are called “the bushman’s alarm clock”.

- Although the laughing kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfisher family, they rarely eat fish. Kookaburras prey on a variety of small animals including frogs, snakes, rodents, large insects, and even smaller birds!
